Kent State (6-21, 3-14 Mid-American Conference) sent their seniors out on a high note as they beat the visiting Miami Redhawks (9-19, 3-14 MAC), 59-53, snapped a four game losing streak while Miami dropped their eighth straight.

The Flashes led the game for over 37 minutes, while their biggest lead of the game got up to 10 midway through the first.

It was a back and forth game for most of the second half as Miami tied the game up three times in the second half but they could never find the momentum to get over that hump and take the lead.  

In the first quarter the Flashes came out strong going on a 7-0 run. Five of the seven points came from Jordan Korinek, It wasn’t long though before Miami answered with a 6-0 run of their own to tie the game at 11. Larissa Lurken then buried a three to give the Flashes a 15-12 edge at the end of the first.

Coming out of the break the Redhawks scored six unanswered points, but it wasn’t until Jordan Korinek hit a jump shot and an old fashioned three point play to silence Miami.

 The Redhawks found their way back into the game late in the third as they tie the game up at 37 apiece. Once again though Korinek was determined to not let Miami take the lead as she converted on another and one for the Flashes.

 Again the Redhawks tied the game up at 41. Tyra James checked into the game and gave the lead back to the Flashes. Down the stretch in the fourth Kent was able to knock down 13 foul shots.

The Flashes only shot a little over 71 percent from the charity strike but they shot a total of 35 shots, converting on 25 of them.

Kent State was led by Jordan Korinek who had a game high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Korinek shot 70 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free throw line while playing 39 of the 40 minutes. Korinek wasn’t alone though as Larissa Lurken put in a double-double scoring 14 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Flashes travel to Buffalo Saturday for their last regular season game. Tip-off is at 2 pm.
