It only happens every so often, and when you see it, it makes you smile every time. On Brad Hamilton’s first at bat of the season on the Kent State baseball team, the sophomore catcher launched one into the left-field stands for the first home-run in his young career.

Hamilton stayed perfect throughout the day, knocking in six RBI and finishing five-for-five with a double.

He did have some four-hit company, as senior first baseman Zarley Zalewski knocked in two RBI and went four-for-five with a double on the day.

The Flashes swept the series with the 11-3 win, making Sunday the second of back-to-back games scoring over 10 runs. They outscored Charlotte 26-12 on the weekend.

Zalewski and Hamilton weren’t alone with big days this weekend, as the Flashes’ bats were alive from the beginning.

Zalewski had a nice weekend all around, going 6-for-12 driving in four with one home-run.

In Friday’s 4-3 win, the 9th was their big inning, sending seven players to the plate and pushing two guys home to take a 4-1 lead. This big inning was the center-piece in all three wins and fits exactly into the team’s “pack-mentality” mantra. 

Sunday’s big inning was every inning Hamilton stepped to the plate because he drove a run home every time he did.

The weekend sweep makes seven-straight wins for the Flashes after the team dropped all three of their opening weekend games.

Next up for Kent State is Radford University (2-9) on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Radford, Virginia.
