Men’s golf finishes ninth in Laredo
February 27, 2021
The Flashes struggled at the Border Olympics tournament in Laredo, Texas, and finished ninth.
“It’s a different type of grass, which is a lot different than what we play on up here,” men’s golf head coach Jon Mills said. “It’s kind of like playing on dead, dormant grass, and it can cause some issues around the greens if you’re not used to it. We struggled with that.”
The Flashes finished with a score of 33-over-par 897, ninth among the XX teams in the tournament.
“Overall we were not happy with how we played,” Mills said. “We struggled for most of the tournament with things like approach shots and distance control.”
Cade Breitenstine finished in 19th, leading the team with an overall score of 8-over-par 221.
“It was a solid finish,” coach Mills said. “But I know if you ask him, he’d be disappointed in how he played.”
Mills said the team needs to move on and prepare for the General Hackler Collegiate March 14-16.
“Instead of dwelling on what we struggled with, let’s identify it, let’s work on it and not let it be an issue in a couple weeks when we head down to Myrtle Beach.” Mills said.
