Kent State University’s pool was ranked as the 10th best pool at a college campus in the nation. The rank was determined by CollegeRank.net, a website designed to provide information about higher education institutions for students choosing their college.

The rank was determined by “subjective data such as reviews, a point system based on notable amenities, as well as average temperature data by location, based on the assumption that a leisurely swim is more satisfying when it serves as both an escape from the heat and a medium for soaking up some much missed vitamin D.” from “The 30 Best College Pools” by CollegeRank.net. This is the second year KSU made the list, and is ranked higher than the University of Akron, which ranked 12th out of the 30 pools.

“We are really excited to once again make the official list of the top 30 college pools in the country, we are ranked 10th this year which is awesome and if you look at the full list almost every other school that’s number one through nine are all different institutions and colleges in the south, so lots of Texas lots of Florida lots of places where they have both indoor and outdoor facilities, so I think the fact that our fully indoor natatorium here at Kent State University made the list is really exciting.” said Abby Millsaps, the marketing coordinator for the Department of Recreational Services.

CollegeRank.net featured the waterfall, water vortex, wading pool, zero depth entry and the six-lane lap pool with chair lift, about the KSU pool facility. Other amenities mentioned about the Recreational Center are the ice rink, club sports, and customized fitness programs.

“The pool is nice, but I think they could have more fun pool equipment,” said Maura McGough, sophomore communications studies major.

The KSU pool offers water exercise classes as well as a swim team, and each semester the pool hosts a dive in movie. The next one will be The Lorax shown on April 8, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. This event is happening during Sibs and Kids weekend and will be available to KSU students and registered guests.

“I’ve only been once. I liked it for the dive in movie, because it was a cool experience of swimming and watching a movie, it was two fun activities in one. I thought it was nice facility and I wish I took more advantage of it,” said Katherine Fothergill, a sophomore communication studies major.
