The Kent State men and women’s track and field team did not get the win they were hoping for in Friday’s rivalry matchup. The women’s team fell to Akron 80-71 and the men’s team were defeated 82-68.

On the women’s side, junior Jorian Ordway came in second in the 200-meter dash. Ordway also set a PR tonight in the 60-meter with a time of 7:08, coming in third place.

”I compete well in the Akron dual because the rest of the team is excited and the energy of the head-to-head competition gives me energy,” Ordway said. “We face them so much that we get comfortable knowing their times and having the confidence to beat them.” 

Director Bill Lawson was proud of the women’s 400 meter relay team. He said that they are better than they were last year around this time.

After breaking the 28-year-old record last weekend, senior Donovan Tolbert once again set a new mark of 16.18 meters (53’ 1”).

Flashes track and field will have a week break until the rivalry ensues again at Akron on Friday, Feb. 5.
