The Kent State Hockey Club came out on top despite coach Jim Underwood’s disappointment after weak penalty kills and shot blocks against Oswego State.

“It’s always nice to get a win especially on your home ice,” said Underwood. “But how we went about the winning the game, as a coach, I felt we underachieved and (it) was very, very disappointing.”

Kent State took a lot of bad penalties during the game totaling in 30 minutes on seven infractions.

“We allowed a team that wasn’t at our level to stick around and make it a game all the way to the very end,” said Underwood.

Underwood stressed that the team’s penalty kills need a lot of work, along with their ability to block shots if they are going to be successful during their next match against Robert Morris University.

“As a team we did a terrible job blocking shots, and that needs to change going into tomorrow because we are going to be playing a much better opponent,” he said. 

The Flashes were led by sophomore Jake Hainline scoring two points, along with sophomore Chance Taylor assisted by TJ West and Caleb Ganelli and Bobby Rhue with a solo shot adding up to a final score of 4-3.

Kent State will face Robert Morris University Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Kent State Ice Arena.
