The College of Architecture and Environmental Design, which is to be housed in the new building along the Esplanade, is in search of a new dean.

“I have so enjoyed working with this faculty on this search,” said Amy Reynolds, the chair of the search committee conducting the exploration for the new dean. “When you look at the really terrific programs, the really terrific faculty … my view is that (the Architecture and Environmental design program) is a real asset to the university.” 

The three candidates for the position will give presentations at Kent State in order to communicate their qualifications, goals and ideas regarding the opportunity.

 “From the faculty perspective, they’re looking for someone with a real vision, with strong leadership skills—someone who can really make sure the program is thriving and continues to make progress,” Reynolds said.

The position hopefuls will be on campus for the presentations, which will all take place in the Kiva. The presentations are public and free to attend. 

The candidates include current Associate Dean for the School of Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Mark Mistur, who will give his presentation on Thursday, Feb. 11 from 1:30-2:15 p.m.

Brook Weld Muller, the interim dean for the School of Architecture and Allied Arts at the University of Oregon, who will present Friday, Feb. 12 from 1:30-2:15 p.m.

The final candidate to speak is Maria Bellalta, dean of the School of Landscape Architecture at Boston Architectural College who will present on Monday, Feb. 15 from 1:30-2:15 p.m.

“The public presentations are a great way for people to assess whether or not the candidates do have a strong vision and the right kinds of skills, and are able to engage with them in answering their questions,” Reynolds said.
