DesignGroup encourages architecture students to consider job opportunities
November 17, 2015
DesignGroup and the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) helped inspire students about the world of architecture and their success stories with their “Firm Profile Night” Tuesday night in the MACC Annex.
DesignGroup is an architecture and interior design firm based in Columbus, Ohio, that is known for its models of sustainability. CEO Sherm Moreland and Project Associate Yana Grinblat — both Kent State alumni — spoke about how the university helped play a role in getting them where they are within the firm today.
“[Kent State] offers some of the best courses that really teach you the things you need to know after graduation,” Grinblat said.
Moreland and Grinblat gave a presentation on what their firm does and what types of benefits come with being a part of the company.
DesignGroup has also received many achievements with a total of 85 awards, including the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Columbus award, the AIA Gold Medal Firm award and the Autodesk BIM Experience award.
The firm has also worked on more than 30 Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) registered and certified projects. These projects focus on good standards for architecture and sustainability.
Moreland and Grinblat urged the students in the audience to consider DesignGroup when looking for a job after graduation.
“Things are getting better,” Moreland said as he addressed where he thinks the profession is headed. “You all are graduating at a time where the economy is good.”
Tonight’s presentation was a part of the AIAS group at Kent State. The group’s goal is to highlight different firms throughout the semester in order to educate students on their options for potential employers.
Moreland and Grinblat ended their presentation by providing information on how to submit a resume to the firm. If interested, apply at www.designgroup.us.com and visit their careers page.
