The number eight ranked Kent State women’s golf team is heading to Austin, Texas to finish the fall season at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational hosted by the University of Texas.  

“I look for the girls to just go out, start off aggressively and continue to play that way throughout the tournament,” said head coach Greg Robertson. “That’s what we’ve done the last two weekends so it’s not really anything different that we have to do. Just a good practice round, good preparation and just go out and play golf.”

The Flashes will face three other top-25 ranked teams in this tournament along with a good spread of other teams.

“I think there’s a number of teams that played in the last tournament, so we will see quite a few of the same teams” Robertson said. “There will be a couple new teams that have some talent.”

Freshman Michaela Finn looks to just play her game after claiming individual medalist honors at the Jim West Classic on Oct. 6. 

“As always I’m going to play the best game I can. I’m not going to go out and put pressure on myself,” Finn said. “I’m just going to play my best and see how it goes.”

As individuals, the players will try to back up their new rankings after five of the Flashes ranked in the top-100 in individual standings, according to Golfweek and Golfstat rankings. 

Senior Taylor Kim is the only player within the top-20, coming in at No. 17.  Junior Wad Phaewchimplee grabs the No. 44 spot. Senior Josée Doyon takes No. 71. Senior Amira Alexander sits at No. 85 and Finn comes in at No.92.  

“It all comes down to how we do things once we get there and just going out and playing our game,” Robertson said.  If we just do that I think we will be fine.”
