While some students will enjoy Halloween weekend in downtown Kent, some will enjoy crackles from a bonfire, a boastful basement with strobe and black lights for students to enjoy and Halloween-themed snacks upstairs.

YoungLife, a Christian college and high school outreach ministry will celebrate the holiday at its sober party.

“We have a sober Halloween party because we all want to hang out and find fun and happiness without the additions of alcohol and the pressure it brings,” said sophomore fashion merchandising major and YoungLife leader Kara Woodward.

She said the leaders agreed to abide by the law; they believe that alcohol can bring up unnecessary problems at parties.

“It can stir a lot of trouble, misjudgment and hypocrisy, so we just stick to our good ol’ personalities and Cheetos to have fun,” Woodward said.

YoungLife’s mission is to create a community that feels like a family and sparks genuine friendships.

“You can expect crazy, free personalities and a few wolf shirts,” Woodward said.
