Kent Hack Enough Hackathon officially began this Friday and will continue through Sunday, on the fourth floor of the University Library. Students gather to learn and design their own app, website or hardware hack.

This weekend-long event invites students from all over the country to learn something new about computer science all while experiencing a fun, social atmosphere. Students work around the clock to build their product, starting at 9:00 p.m. tonight and ending on Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

Senior computer science and fashion merchandising major Robin Bonatesta participated as a leader in organizing the event for the past two years.

“The event was founded about three years ago, and [graduating seniors] asked me to take over,” she said. “We love this organization and would do anything to make it happen.”

Bonatesta and other event volunteers were able to raise $30,000 towards this year’s event for food and “swag” gear like shirts and wristbands.

“We have about 10 new sponsors this year that we’re happy to have, like Smucker’s,” she said.

Graduate students Uttara Suryavanshi and Teja Sudha Gariganti are attending this year’s event for the first time.

“We heard about it through Facebook and friends,” Gariganti said. “We’ve been developing a small project so this event will help us with that.”

Suryavanshi and Gariganti plan on developing a mobile app with the help of Kent Hack Enough’s volunteers, seminars and sponsors.
