TV2’s Lauren Stebelton finds out how one gets on homecoming court and what the court’s philanthropy is.

This year’s Homecoming Court has been tasked with various activities this week, but that hasn’t stopped them from contributing more to the community by raising money and food donations for Center of Hope/Kent Social Services of Ravenna.  

“The Homecoming Court is completely in charge of the philanthropy,” said king court member, senior Terry Hugo. “We had to come together as a group really quick and hit the ground running.”

Monday through Friday, the Homecoming Court set up a table in the Student Center taking monetary and food donations. Hugo plans on being at the table every day.

Each year, thousands of families turn to the Ravenna based service for assistance. The Center of Hope/Kent Social Services provide food from their food pantry, clothing and housing, and emergency support services.

According to Ohiohopes.org, Center of Hope/Kent Social Services offers a grocery pantry and hot meals along with opportunities for socialization, cooking classes and referral services.

They offer different programs throughout the week, such as lunches Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and dinner Thursdays and almost every Sunday.

“We have been making posters, hanging up flyers everywhere and posting on social media to try and get as many people to donate to this cause as possible,” said senior court member McCall Sims.

So far this week, the Homecoming Court has raised approximately $150 along with a large assortment of non-perishable food items.

“I am excited to work with Center of Hope/Kent Social Services because they are part of Kent community. I, along with the rest of the Homecoming Court, really like giving back to the community and having an opportunity to work with an agency here that means so much to all of us,” said senior court member Laura Roch.

The Homecoming Court will collect donations in the Student Center Thursday-Friday on the first floor from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
