Kent State University was awarded a $114,616 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to host an English seminar July 18 to Aug. 13, 2016.

Susanna Fein, a Kent State English professor, said the seminar will focus on The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer.

“Chaucer is an ideal subject for the NEH seminar because he is one of the foundational authorial voices in the English language,” said Fein.

Fein credits Kent State’s Library for its vast collection of books relating to medieval studies and Chaucer’s work. 

“(Kent State is) only one of six university-level NEH seminars to be held nationwide during summer 2016,” said Fein. “Being selected is a tribute to the quality of the University’s facilities, especially the library.”

Scholars from Yale University, Ohio State University, and Indiana University along with the curator of art from the Cleveland Museum of Art will attend the seminar.
