Recreation center to serve as polling location for on-campus Kent voters
November 1, 2021
The Beverly J. Warren Student Recreation and Wellness Center will serve as a polling location Tuesday for the Portage County general election. The recreation center will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. for students living at select residence halls on campus.
The recreation center is open to students residing in the Eastway dorms, including Allyn, Clark, Fletcher and Manchester halls; the quad dorms, including Lake, Olson, Stopher and Johnson halls; Centennial A through D, Dunbar, Prentice and Verder Halls, according to the Kent residence hall precinct document.
Students who live in Beall, McDowell and VanCampen Halls should vote at Kent Christian Life Center at 1972 Summit St., while students who live in Centennial E, Centennial F and Koonce Hall should visit the United Methodist Church at 1435 E. Main St. to cast their ballots.
Students must be registered to vote in Portage County to participate in the election and must vote at their assigned polling places. Polling locations change, and voters should double check the address before heading out. Ohio also requires identification to vote—acceptable forms are listed on the Secretary of State’s website.
Kent Mayor Jerry Fiala is unopposed in seeking reelection and council members at large Michael DeLeone, Gwen Rosenberg and Roger Sidoti are running for three open seats. Wesley Buchanan and Kevin Poland, the incumbent, are running for a seat on the Kent branch of the Portage County Municipal Court. Mark Fankhauser, the incumbent, and Joseph Sontich Jr. are vying for the other municipal court seat in Kent.
Bryan Boykin, Collin Boyle and Tierra Moore, a Kent State graduate and former president of Undergraduate Student Government, are running for three open seats on the Kent City School District’s Board of Education.
