Freedom to Marry event Friday will wed a gay couple every hour
July 2, 2015
After the Supreme Court ruled last Friday that gay marriages are legal in all 50 states, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Kent will host a Freedom to Marry event this Friday for gay couples.
The ceremonies will take place at the church, located at 228 Gougler Ave., from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Rev. Christie Anderson will wed one same-sex couple per hour, and each wedding will be followed by a small reception hosted by church volunteers. The couples will receive their marriage licenses from the Portage County Probate Court.
The idea for the ceremony came from the church’s minister, Melissa Carvill-Ziemer, who married her wife, Evin, in 2006.
