University Library to host “Final Paper Cram Jam”
April 26, 2015
The Writing Commons will host a “Final Paper Cram Jam” to help students with final writing assignments from April 27 to May 1.
The multi-day event will take place outside the Writing Commons on the fourth floor of the University Library, from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday.
The purpose of the event is to answer questions students may have and provide writing tips, said Sarah McIntosh, undergraduate tutor at the Writing Commons. They will also have resources there to help start, revise and finish papers.
“We don’t do any proofreading or editing; we like to focus on ‘higher order concerns,’” McIntosh said. “So like thesis, organization and flow of the paper, more like skill building then fixing things.”
This will be a drop-in event. While sessions normally last 20 minutes, because the Writing Commons will be open during the event, students who want a longer session can get a walk-in appointment, she said.
“We are also going to have a raffle. We are going to give out three gift baskets,” McIntosh said. “They are going to have things like energy drinks, energy bars and highlighters. We call that our ‘study survival baskets.’”
This semester will be the first time the Writing Commons will individually host the weeklong event, McIntosh said.
