The Graduate Student Senate hosted the 30th annual Graduate Research Symposium in the Student Center on Friday, showcasing research projects conducted by graduate students of varying majors.

Scout McCully, a graduate appointee in the psychology department and chair for the event, helped coordinate the oral and poster presentations.

“(There) are a wide range of presentations and disciplines represented,” McCully said. “We encourage all forms of scholarship and research. We have presentations from the College of the Arts, College of Podiatric Medicine and the (college of) science (represented).”

After the oral and poster presentations, McCully said that judging would commence during the awards luncheon, in which Kent State President Beverly Warren was the guest speaker.

“Some of the things we’re looking for is high quality content,” McCully said. “Is the research innovative, complex, or does it have broad relevance?”

McCully said that the judging would also cover verbal and nonverbal communication and quality and organization of the materials in the poster or oral presentation.

Prizes for the symposium included $100 in cash and a certificate for their placing.
