The Student Recreational and Wellness Center’s annual facility shutdown will take place the week after final exams.

Scheduled deep cleaning of equipment and expansion to the lower weight room will occur May 9 through May 17, and the Rec will be closed to everyone.

“We will be power washing and cleaning our rock wall and draining, scrubbing and retiling the pool,” said Abby Millsaps, the Marketing Coordinator from the Department of Recreational Services.

Millsaps said that although these cleaning procedures are scheduled for each annual facility shutdown, she explained that this year, the facility will undergo its biggest renovation to its weight room.

“There will be 50 new additions to our weight room,” Millsaps said, “We’re increasing the numbers and size of the room because it is so popular.”

For members and students who believe they will need assistance with new equipment, the Rec offers a year-round private orientation tour.

“This orientation includes a one-on-one tour explaining how to use equipment based on your availability,” Millsaps said, “Members can come into our fitness suite and schedule a tour for free.”

The Rec’s services will resume Monday, May 18.
