Jewish Studies Program to host “Memories, Milestones, Momentum” gala
April 30, 2015
Kent State’s Jewish Studies Program will be celebrating its 40th anniversary on Sunday, May 17 with a “Memories, Milestones, Momentum” gala.
“President (Beverly) Warren is coming to make an address,” said Chaya Kessler, director of the Jewish studies program. “We will have a short video about our past, great food and music.”
Over the years, Kessler says that the the program has been able to send students to Israel and Poland. They have also been able to have various notable speakers, such as Elie Wiesel.
Taking place at the Kent State Hotel and Conference Center, the celebration will also pay tribute to Herbert Hochhauser, who served as the program’s longest-running director for 20 years.
For 35 years, he taught both Jewish studies and German literature. In addition to his time spent at Kent, Hochhauser produced Emmy winning documentary films.
If you wish to attend the event, dinner reservation checks of $100 per person are due to the Jewish Studies Program by May 5.
