Flashes baseball sweeps conference foe Northern Illinois

Friday, April 3: Kent State 16, Northern Illinois 4
Kent State scored early and often against Northern Illinois on Friday in the opening game of the series, winning 16-4. The Flashes managed 18 hits during the game and only committed one error.
Redshirt sophomore Luke Burch, senior Tommy Monnot and sophomore Conner Simonetti all recorded three hits to lead Kent State on the offensive attack.
Junior Nick Jensen-Clagg (5-3) went 5.2 innings, allowing just three runs on eight hits.
Kent State scored six runs in the first three innings to break the game wide open.
Monnot started things off with a two-run double. Sophomore Zach Beckner homered, Simonetti added a two-run double and a home run of his own, as Kent State cruised to an easy victory.
Saturday, April 4: Kent State 7, Northern Illinois 4
Kent State again jumped to an early lead in game two and proceeded to never look back, taking back-to-back games against Northern Illinois.
Monnot homered in the fourth after Burch had a sac fly in the third. Freshman Dylan Rosa recorded an RBI triple in the fifth inning to keep things rolling.
Simonetti added two RBI including a home run for the second straight game.
Sophomore Eric Lauer (2-2) went five innings and only gave up one run in a solid performance to score the victory.
Freshman Zach Willeman recorded his sixth save of the season. Willeman went 3.2 innings to record the save, only giving up two hits and no runs.
Sunday, April 5: Kent State 10, Northern Illinois 3
Kent State went in and completed the sweep of the Northern Illinois on Sunday.
The offense was potent once again. Kent State scored 10 and played well defensively to cap the series off.
Sophomore Andy Ravel went six innings, allowing only one earned run and giving up seven hits throughout. Ravel also struck out seven.
Senior Jeff Revesz had a big day at the plate, going 2-4 with a two-run triple. Rosa also recorded a RBI, and Monnot hit two home runs during the game.
Junior Zarley Zalewski had a good game Sunday, recording a RBI single for Kent State’s final run in the ninth inning.
It was Kent State’s seventh win in a row and advanced the record to 17-11 on the season.
The Flashes will take on Oakland University at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in Michigan.
