Kent State gymnastics falls to Northern Illinois in MAC opener
January 17, 2015
After the Flashes dropped Friday’s meet to Northern Illinois, 193.375-193.025, coach Brice Biggin said he wasn’t too happy with Kent State’s (0-3, 0-1 Mid-American Conference) overall performance.
“I’m extremely disappointed in how we have performed as a team so far this season,” Biggin said. “Its never good losing when you know you are capable of winning.”
The Flashes split 2-2 in the four-event meet, but most of the difference came in the floor events, as Kent State lost 48.925-48.100.
Senior Chelsea Drooger led the way with a first-place finish in the Uneven Parallel Bars with a score of 9.725, and freshman Rachel Stypinski also finished first in the Balance Beam with a score of 9.800.
But Biggin said that individual performance means nothing in a team sport and that everyone must improve if they plan to turn their season around.
“When we fail as a team, then it doesn’t matter how well one person does,” Biggin said. “This is a team sport.”
The Flashes will come home to the M.A.C. Center take on Western Michigan University in their next meet Friday, Jan. 23 at 7:00 p.m.
