Update (Nov. 14, 2014): The deaf-blind workshop has been cancelled due to the presenter’s illness and possible inclement weather, according to an email from Amy Fetterman, president of Kent State ASL Club. The workshop has yet to be rescheduled. 

The Kent State American Sign Language Club is sponsoring a deaf-blind workshop from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 15 in Satterfield Hall, Room 121.

The Northeast Ohio Deaf-Blind Association will lead the workshop and focus on deaf-blind culture and communication, said Amy Fetterman, president of Kent State ASL Club.

“The workshop will start with an introduction to deaf-blindness,” Fetterman said. “Then the various communication methods will be discussed and practiced.”

Fetterman said the event is open to all interested Kent State students and members of the community. She said that because there wasn’t an invite required, the group expects an interesting turnout.

The workshop will help create awareness among the Kent State students about the local deaf-blind community and help create new friendships, Fetterman said.

“Deaf and deaf-blind culture is all about connections and community,” Fetterman said. “I look forward to our community growing from this event.”
