Portage county voters approved the Dusty Armadillo, Chuggers Bar & Grille and Haylett & Sons Corner Store in Portage County to sell liquor on Sundays with a D-6 permit.

A D-6 permit will allow the sale of wine (also including hard cider), spirituous liquor and mixed beverages on Sundays between 10 a.m. and midnight. Portage County currently has 126 businesses with Sunday liquor licenses.

Yes wins Issue 52 – The Dusty Armadillo

The country bar and line dancing venue, The Dusty Armadillo, located on State Route 44 in Rootstown, was approved a D-6 permit to allow the Sunday sale of liquor between 11 a.m. and midnight.

Before Issue 38 passed, Dusty Armadillo owner Shawn Martz said that the permit would allow entertainment acts that perform at the bar on Saturday to perform again on Sunday, increasing business at the bar.

With a yes vote of 65.24% of the 420 voters from the one precinct voting, the Dusty Armadillo will now sell liquor between 11 a.m. and midnight on Sunday.

Yes wins Issue 38 – Chuggers Bar & Grille

Chuggers Bar & Grille located on Market Square Drive in Streetsboro was approved for a D-6 permit to allow the Sunday sale of liquor between 12 p.m. and midnight.

Owner Kristy Wanyek said in a previous interview that she expects liquor sales to go up on Sundays with the Sunday liquor sales permit.

If passed, this issue would allow the restaurant to sell liquor during these set Sunday times.

With a yes of vote of 69.09% of the 275 voters from the one precinct voting, Chuggers Bar & Grille will now sell liquor from 12 p.m. to midnight on Sundays.

Yes wins Issue 50 – Haylett & Sons Corner Store

Haylett & Sons Corner Store located on State Route 82 in Mantua was approved aD-6 permit to allow the Sunday sale of liquor between 10 a.m. and midnight.

Owner Shawn Haylett said in a previous interview that the license would help the store compete with other businesses, increase sales.

With a yes vote of 84.14% of the 391 voters from the one precinct voting, Haylett & Sons Corner Store will now sell liquor between 10 a.m. and midnight on Sundays.
