Fall symposium to reveal ‘Why Everything You Know About the Bible Is Wrong’
October 2, 2014
Baldwin Wallace University’s Robert Fowler, a professor of religion, will explain the “Gutenberg Parenthesis of the Bible, or Why Everything You Know About the Bible is Wrong” as the keynote speaker for the 2014 fall symposium.
The symposium will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, in the Kent State Student Center. It is presented by the Center for the Study of Information and Religion (CSIR), a research initiative of the School of Library and Information Science at Kent State.
CSIR Director Don Wicks said finding keynote speakers for the symposium is through research, word-of-mouth or going to conferences.
When choosing the 2014 keynote speaker, Wicks said faculty met Fowler through his attendance at previous CSIR conferences.
“We knew he had some interesting things to say and we just concluded that he would be a good guest to sometime have his own presentation,” Wicks said. “It’s nice to have somebody who already has shown interest.”
Fowler will explain in his presentation how the Bible has evolved through the different stages of human communication and the invention of the Gutenberg printing press.
The event is free and open to the public.
