Kent State’s Art Club will kick off its Halloween festivities with a “Fear Show” exhibit in downtown Kent on Saturday, Oct. 25.

The exhibit will feature art submitted by the public and will be shown at Gallery 425 6–9 p.m. The featured works will compete for a grand prize: to attend the Art Club’s two-day trip to Pittsburgh on Nov. 15.

“We opened submissions to the public for this one,” Kent State Art Club President Isabella Luzader said. “We got work from Akron and California.”

The art show was inspired by the concept of fear.

“Fear is a basic human emotion. Everyone’s experienced it,” Luzader said. “As artists, it gets into our work, even if we don’t realize it.”

At the show, the club will display the top submissions, from drawings and paintings to audio and video submissions.

“It’ll be set up kind of like a regular exhibit,” Luzader said, “but we’ll have things you can touch. There will be parts sectioned off where we’ll have audio and movies playing.”

The show will also feature a major group installation that Luzader said will allow attendees to participate; however, it won’t be revealed until the event.

“I can’t say much about that one,” Luzader said. “That one’s a surprise.”    

The show will also feature an art-themed costume contest, and attendees are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite artists or artworks.

“Fear Show” is free to the general public.
