The Homecoming Digital Collections Reception will be held on Friday, Oct. 17 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the main lobby of the University Library to showcase the digitized recorded history of Kent State through different archived collections.

“The theme we chose this year was to highlight some of our digital collections that we have, particularly because most of the content we created to date has been focused on university historical resources, like The Kent Stater or the Chestnut Burr yearbooks,” said Cara Gilgenbach, the head of Special Collections and Archives.

The Digital Collections that will be shared at the reception include the Chestnut Burr, the Daily Kent Stater, Kent State University photographs and campus maps, and Kent State Shootings: May 4 Digital Archive and Oral Histories.

Workstations will be set up in the lobby with faculty available to help navigate the collections so attendees can view past editions of the archived collections.

However, these digitalized collections can be viewed on the Special Collections and Archives website at any time.

The initiatives of the Digital Collections allow the Special Collections and Archives to share these collections with students, faculty and alumni. These collections, according to a university press release, provide access to rare materials that may have acute preservation problems due to age and fragility of their original formats.
