Performing Arts Library display talent with a twist
October 1, 2014
The first Open Mic Lunch of the semester will be held Friday, Oct. 3 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Performing Arts Library.
The lunch is open for all Kent State students, faculty and members of the Kent community.
Joe Clark, the head of the Performing Arts Library, manages the Open Mic Lunches. In the past, Clark said the sets have included stand-up comedy, poetry readings, monologues, dance and musical groups among other things, as the sets are not limited to a specific category.
“A memorable act was (when) a young lady brought in a CD, played the music and signed the language of the song,” Clark said.
There can be up to 12 different sets at the Open Mic Lunches and anyone can participate. Sets typically range from 5 to 20 minutes and if time permits, the lunch is open to walk-in performances.
“It’s a good chance for students to run through a piece if they have a recital coming up or if they are working on something they have to perform,” Clark said.
Light refreshments will be provided and attendees can bring their own lunch. The next Open Mic Lunch is Nov. 7.
