Students dance at USG-sponsored Timeflies concert
September 18, 2014
The crowd swayed its hips and danced along to the music as Timeflies performed Thursday night.
The Undergraduate Student Government-sponsored event featured the hip-hop duo Timeflies and opener Heydaze in the M.A.C. Center. A crowd of students filed into the center to get the best view they could.
As the show was introduced, the cheering crowd was deafening.
However, some students said they haven’t always been satisfied with their student government’s productions.
“When I was a freshman, I don’t think I went to a single show,” junior early childhood education major Angelia Szekely said. “I actually don’t think anyone I know did.”
Szekely said she thinks USG has begun to show a better understanding of the student body.
“The shows last year were a good start,” Szekely said. “I want them to keep going in that direction.”
This year, USG surveyed students to see what artists they would like to have perform on campus.
“I went around and asked kids who they wanted to see and Timeflies was in the top,” USG programming director Kevin Otubu said.
After USG’s conducted its surveys, the organization booked performers who reflected students’ requests. Timeflies was the first act for the fall lineup.
“I’m so excited for this year,” said Sarah Ellis, freshman business management technology major. “I love Timeflies, and I can’t wait for Chance.”
Chance the Rapper will perform Oct. 23 in the M.A.C. Center. Details on ticket information will be released by USG in the next few weeks.
“I feel like they’re finally getting it,” Szekely said. “They’re getting what we want.”
