It’s not four years — it’s for life.

Formal recruitment takes place from Sept. 16-21 and allows potential new members to learn about all seven chapters.

“I met people right away,” said Anna Lood, the vice president of Panhellenic Council and Retention. “I had no idea where this would take me.”

During recruitment week, potential new members have the opportunity to visit all seven chapters during the philanthropy rounds. Through a mutual selection process between potential new members and the sororities, it is the hope that everyone will find their new home.

“It was about meeting people at first,” Lood, a Chicago native, said. “But this has given me the confidence to take on leadership roles and to know that I can do them successfully.”

As a member of the Greek Community, Lood said she and others hold themselves to higher standards.

“How we carry ourselves,” she said, “it does come along with wearing the letters.”

One of the most frequently asked questions during formal recruitment is, “How will I know where I belong?”

“Delta Zeta chose me,” said Taylor Winter, who is now president of the sorority. “I could be myself around these women. They inspired me, and they were successful.”

Currently, an estimated 500 girls are registered for recruitment this fall.

“It’s not something you want to miss out on, and you will surprise yourself. You will be confident,” Winter said. “There are so many opportunities that you can embark on, and it’s been one of the best learning experiences I’ve ever had. It’s not about the letters, it’s your home away from home.”

All full-time undergraduate students, regardless of class standing, are able to register for recruitment as long as they meet the 2.5 GPA requirement.

“Everyone in our community is caring and wants you to end up at the right place,” said Joshua Cherok, president of Interfraternity Council. “I guarantee by going through the recruitment process, your college experience will be greater than you could ever imagine.”

Formal recruitment registration closes on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 11:59 p.m.
