If you usually go to CVS/pharmacy to buy cigarettes, you’re going to have to walk across the street to Walgreens now. CVS/pharmacy stopped selling tobacco products and changed its corporate name from CVS Caremark to CVS Health. The decision makes CVS/pharmacy the first chain of national pharmacies to take tobacco products off the shelves.
It is a bold move because the company estimates they will take an annual loss of $2 billion, according to CNN. Instead of cigarettes behind the counters, nicotine patches and other tools to help Americans quit smoking fill the shelves. It is a step toward reducing the number of people who smoke and could motivate people to quit.
