Quavaugntay Tyler, the man connected with the April 2 gunshot incident on Kent State’s main campus, has been sentenced to six months in jail.

Portage County Common Pleas Judge Laurie Pittman sentenced Tyler July 22 to 180 days in the Portage County Jail and a $300 fine. Upon conclusion of that time period, Tyler has 5 years of probation, is required to be employed within 9 months and undergo a mental health evaluation. Tyler is also banned from entering the Kent State University campus.

Portage County Prosecutor Victor Vigluicci said Tyler plead guilty to all charges including tampering with evidence, carrying a concealed weapon and inducing panic.

Tyler was a freshman criminology and justice studies major at Kent State and is responsible for causing a three-hour lock down on Kent State’s main campus after pulling the trigger of a 9mm handgun and shooting himself in the hand. At the time Tyler was in a domestic dispute with two female students in the parking lot of Bowman Hall.
