A hit-and-run accident in the 100 block of North Water Street killed a Ravenna man Thursday morning.

A vehicle struck Richard Schoepe, 37, at 9:53 a.m. near the intersection of North Water and Columbus streets, then fled from the scene, according to a press release from the Kent Police Department. A suspect was later “located outside the City of Kent,” according to the release.

Kent Fire Department paramedics transported Schoepe to Akron City Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:28 a.m., according to Jill Elseg, a representative from the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause of death was blunt impact to the head and was ruled an accident, she said.

Kent Police have not named the suspect, and the investigation is ongoing. As of Monday, Kent Police Department dispatcher Kelli Myers said no charges have been filed.

Schoepe was an employee of Start of the West Milling Co., which is near the scene of the accident, for 15 years, and is survived by his wife of 12 years, Farrah, and his children, Kyale and Spencer, according to a GoFundMe page set up for his family.
