The Supreme Court upheld Michigan’s ban on affirmative action on Tuesday. In a 6-2 ruling. The court said voters had the right to rework the state constitution to prohibit public colleges from using race as a consideration for admission. The decision will help bolster other voter-approved initiatives to ban affirmative action in other states. (Read full story here).

A teenager who stowed away in the wheel well of an airplane headed to Hawaii from California is resting Tuesday at a Honolulu hospital. Officials say the 15-year-old was unconscious for most of the five-hour flight and didn’t regain consciousness until about an hour after the plane had landed. The teen told authorities he was running away from home, and he is currently in custody of child welfare services. 

The Supreme Court is having its doubts about laws that try to police false statements during political campaigns. Justices have expressed their concerns during arguments in a case Tuesday that is challenging an Ohio law that bars people from recklessly making false statements about candidates who are seeking office. The death toll from the capsized ferry off the southern coast of South Korea reached 113 on Tuesday, officials said. About 190 people are still missing, most of which are students of a single high school near Seoul, South Korea. Four crewmembers have been accused of abandoning ship and failing to protect passengers. Warrants were also issued for the captain and two other crewmembers.
