Ask Mel: Don’t fret Valentine’s Day
February 12, 2014
This week, I’ve decided to go ahead and give advice about a special topic that relates to what’s on everyone’s mind and is this week’s theme: Valentine’s Day.
If you are lucky to spend Friday night with your significant other, then great! Enjoy the day and night with one another, get into all the mushy, cutesy stuff, or avoid the gooeyness altogether and just hangout together, whatever — be happy you have a Valentine.
For the rest of you, please, I beg you — DO NOT pout and be all ‘anti’ Valentine’s Day. Don’t wear black. You’re not going to the death of your love life. I promise it’s not the end of the world that you don’t have someone right now. Trust me, I waited about 18 years until I had someone in my life who was actually worthy enough to be my special someone.
Instead of moping around in your sorrows of “a love life that’s never going to happen,” go out and do stuff with your ladies or guy friends! Get a group of single peeps and have a nice group dinner instead. Go out dancing, get drinks with your friends, do something fun. Pretend it’s just another day.
When we look closely, it’s a bunch of milk chocolate hearts, flowers, sappy cards and love. (All things that I do enjoy, by the way!) But don’t fret because you can’t do all of those things with someone this year. Your day will come, too. Be patient and just have enjoy being single, without ruining it for those who are happily involved with someone.
That being said, I hope all of my readers have a wonderful Valentine’s Day. Hugs and kisses to you all!
— XO, Mel
