The Kent State College of Podiatric Medicine has selected Allan M. Boike as its new dean.

Boike is currently the director of the Podiatric Medical and Surgical Residency Training Programs at the Cleveland Clinic. He will start his new position as dean on July 1.

“As the director of podiatric medical education at a large medical teaching institution and through my years serving as a member of the board of directors for the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, I have seen and appreciate the challenges faced by recent graduates in the field,” Boike said.

“Kent State’s College of Podiatric Medicine is positioned to take the lead in podiatric medical education, and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to play a role in students’ journey to excellence,” Boike said in a press release.

Provost Todd Diacon, said he was pleased with the selection of Boike as the new dean.

“Dr. Boike is a nationally known podiatrist and educator who understands the future of podiatric medicine and who is committed to steering the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine to the top of all podiatric schools in the country,” Diacon said in a press release.

“We are fortunate to have someone with Dr. Boike’s skill, experience and reputation for excellence joining Kent State.”

Boike has lectured at more than 100 seminars throughout the United States. In 1997, he was honored with the William J. Stickle Silver Award for Podiatric Research. He also has past experience working as an associate professor in the Department of Podiatric Surgery at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine.

Bryan Caldwell, interim dean of the College of Podiatric Medicine, said he was satisfied with the decision to hire Boike.

“I have known Dr. Boike for many years.  He is a man of integrity and a superb podiatric physician,” Caldwell said.  “He will assure that our faculty and students are the best in the nation.”

Rocco Petrozzi, assistant professor and the division head of the College of Podiatric Medicine, said Kent State “got it right.”

“Certainly this is an exciting time here at the College of Podiatric Medicine,” Petrozzi said. “To have someone with Dr. Boike’s credentials, experience and reputation leading this college is a major step in a positive direction in the evolution of podiatric medical education, not only in northeast Ohio but on a national level as well.”
