Commuter student participation more than doubled from last year at Kent State’s Car Winterization Clinic on Tuesday.

Kevin Heller, executive director of the Commuter and Off-Campus Student Organization (COSO), said participation went from fewer than 10 students last year to more than 30 this year.

Heller attributed the success of the event to the additional advertising and the teamwork and communication of the COSO officers.

“Jobs were delegated, and they did them to the fullest extent,” Heller said. “Communication was also key.”

A variety of students, including one from the Southern United States attended the event. Josh Tingle, senior fashion design major, attended the event today to prep his car for the Ohio winter.

“It’s really great for people who aren’t used to Ohio weather,” Tingle said. In “South Carolina, it doesn’t snow like it does here.”

A Flynn’s Tire & Auto Service employee who was working at the event said most of the problems were low power-steering fluid and low tire pressure.

“We’re expecting more (students) next year due to the advertising this year, and we plan to do even more next year,” Heller said.

Heller encourages commuter students to contact COSO to get involved and to learn about upcoming spring events.
