Senior Brew Review Tuesday night

The Alumni Association at will host its second annual Senior Brew Review at Ray’s Place Tuesday, November 12.
The goal of the sold-out event is “to help seniors develop their palates to understand what they like,” according to the Alumni Association’s website.
Charlie Thomas, the owner of Ray’s Place, said more than 62 people are registered for the event, showing interest has increased from last year’s 39 participants. Students are excited about the event and there is a lot more buzz around it this year compared to last year, it seems. According to the Alumni Association’s website, the event is full with only 50 seats available.
Thomas said the event will consist of a buffet-style menu with food items prepared specifically to be paired with a certain beer.
“People are getting into good beers, the way wine used to be and still is believe it or not,” Thomas said. “It comes in so many different styles and tastes now and presentations.”
Thomas said they are treating the event like a wine tasting and that they will be serving a variety of beers.
“The beers are all different style beers,” Thomas said. “We have a couple Belgium beers and IPA, and we have a Peanut Butter Porter. We’re also going to have the Great Lake’s Christmas Ale.”
Senior architecture major Mary Franciosa said she hopes the event will help her gain knowledge for one of her classes.
“I’m going to the Senior Brew Review to learn about the pairing of beer and the process,” Franciosa said. “I want to implement it into my studio project of the new brewery facility in Ohio City.”
The event will be on the second floor of Ray’s Place, according to the website. It is $5 for Alumni Association members and $10 for non-members. The tasting begins at 6 p.m. and participants should check in around 5:30 p.m.
