The School of Library and Information Science will be hosting its 10th annual career night Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.

“The event is intended to let people know what you can do with an MLIS degree, which is a master’s degree in library and information science,” said Rhonda Filipan, the school’s academic program coordinator. “We have three categories of students we invite: students who are already in the program, so they can learn what they can do with their degree, undergraduate students from Kent State and other schools that may be interested in the program, and alumni.”

Filipan said the program, which is free, is open to anyone interested in a career in libraries, museums or cultural institutions. Attendees will be able to listen to panel discussions featuring current students, alumni and information professionals.

Following the panel presentations, guests will be able to explore a series of exhibits. More than 45 institutions and companies will be at the event. Filipan said among these will be the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Microsoft, and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

“It’s a great opportunity to introduce our students to professionals who are working in this field,” said Flo Cunningham, the school’s marketing communications and public relations specialist. “To give them an idea of skills and background that employers are looking for.”
