Kent State handles Northern Kentucky at home

Kent State men’s basketball team had no issue with Northern Kentucky University on Sunday at the M.A.C. Center, defeating the Norse 92-73.

The Flashes are now 3-1 in non-conference play, with their only loss coming in overtime against No. 18 University of Virginia.

Offensively, Kent’s offense was powered by their seniors. Forward Justyn Hamilton led the offense for the Flashes with 22 points and six rebounds. Mike Nuga and Danny Pippen contributed 19 points each in the victory.

“In college basketball, generally speaking, you go as far as your seniors take you,” coach Rob Senderoff told KentWired before the season began.

Collectively, the Flashes shot 50 percent from the field and 11 of 24 from three-point distance. Nuga attempted ten three-pointers and made four of them.

Junior Gabe O’Neal was Kent’s leading rebounder, grabbing nine boards in just 17 minutes.

NKU junior guard Trevon Faulkner was the bright spot for Northern Kentucky offensively. In 40 minutes, he scored 28 points and added three assists. Faulkner and David Bohm were the only players to score double digits for Northern Kentucky.

Kent’s homestand continues next week as they open up Mid-American Conference play after nearly a week-long break next Saturday, Dec. 19. Kent State will host rival the University of Akron.
