Two of Northeast Ohio’s experts in Middle Eastern politics and political economy, Pete Moore and Joshua Stacher, will speak at 7 p.m. in Room 483 of the College of Business Administration Building Friday, Sept. 27.

Kent State’s College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Business Administration will host the co-lecture titled “The Political Economy of the Arab Uprisings.”

Moore, an associate professor of political science at Case Western Reserve University will be discussing the book he co-wrote, “Beyond the Arab Spring: Authoritarianism and Democratization in the Arab World.” It examines the source of the Arab uprisings.

Stacher, an assistant professor of political science at Kent State, will also guide the discussion on the political unrest in the Middle East. The acts of rebellion and protesting in the Arab world have been ongoing since December 2010.

“People are very interested in uprisings and why they happen,” Stacher said. “There are quite a few countries where uprisings start and no one knows why.”

The event is part of the 73rd Annual Meeting and Conference of the Ohio Association of Economists and Political Scientists, co-sponsored by the Northeast Ohio Consortium of Middle East Studies.

Stacher said the lecture will give others an opportunity to see what conferences and events dealing with economics and political science look like.

A reception will follow the lecture, both of which are free and open to the public.
