Phi Delta Theta will host its fourth annual Soberfest party this year to benefit its national philanthropic beneficiary, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association, from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 at its fraternity house.

No alcohol will be on the premises at Soberfest, but the fraternity sets up other fun activities for partygoers. The $10 entry fee will go towards ALSA.

This year Phi Delta Theta will host two live musical acts and a “virgin bar” inside the fraternity house. The event, supported by Red Bull, features DJ Donkis, named Red Bull’s best DJ of 2013 in Cleveland, and DJ EV, a Cleveland DJ best known for collaborating with MGK.

Spencer Jacob, a senior hospitality management major and president of Phi Delta Theta, said, “We have a list of a bunch of mixed drinks that we’ve made up over the years. We actually gave the opportunity for different people and other fraternities and sororities to pay $30 to have their own customized drink and they could tell us what they wanted in it.”

Tyler Boshane, sophomore finance major and philanthropy chair for Phi Delta Theta, said, “It’s a giant sober party that helps support ALS. We want to get this as big as possible. At a usual fraternity party, if somebody drives up the road and sees us, they’re going to think we’re going to throw some crazy party. And it is a crazy party, but it has different outcomes; it’s trying to help people.”

Phi Delta Theta is expecting between 800 to 1,000 students at the event, Jacob said. They’re working with the Kent Police to keep the party under control, even without the risks from alcohol.
