The Kent State field hockey team never fully got going offensively Thursday afternoon, as the Flashes fell 6-1 at the hands of the Drexel Dragons at Murphy-Mellis Field.

The Flashes (4-3) allowed three goals in each half, suffering their first loss on the current five-game homestand.

The match was relatively even for the first 15 minutes before the Dragons began to strike on offense. Drexel managed to score three unanswered goals in a span of 14:49 in the first half, two of which were assisted by the Dragons’ Elise DiDonato. Junior Julia Hofmann’s goal near the end of the first half put the Flashes on the scoreboard going into halftime.

In the second half, the Dragons picked up right where they left off, scoring another goal nearly seven minutes into the half to extend their lead to 4-1. They added two more goals throughout the second half courtesy of Chloe Pachuilo, two of Pachuilo’s three goals in the game.

Despite keeping pace with Drexel in terms of total shots (25-21), Kent State managed to only get nine shots on goal in the match, the Flashes’ third-lowest total so far this season.

The Flashes will attempt to move past the loss as they prepare to host No.10 Iowa (4-2) Sunday at Murphy-Mellis Field. The game is scheduled to begin at noon.
