Library looking to fill head position

The University Library is re-opening its search for a new Head of Systems librarian.

The Head of Systems will handle technology operations, advance library computing capabilities and work with all library departments to ensure the effective use of technology.

“The Head of Systems directs all the activities of the Systems Department,” Tom Klingler, Assistant Dean for Systems & Technical Services, said. “These activities include selecting computing equipment, developing and purchasing software services, software products licensed from vendors, software applications developed in-house, configuration of research systems like KentLINK and EBSCOHost.”

The job was originally advertised in January, but the library couldn’t fill the position after a round of interviews in April.

“We advertised this position earlier in the year, but the search failed to find a successful candidate,” Klingler said. “We reconvened, took a fresh look and re-advertised.”

The Head of Systems would be ranked above all who work in the systems department of the library. Until a Head is found, the systems department reports to Klingler, who held the position in 1996 before being promoted.
