Carnival’s 900-foot ship Triumph was moored in Mobile, Alabama after an engine fire stranded it and its passengers off the coast of Mexico in February. Strong winds ripped the ship from its dock Wednesday where the cruise liner was being repaired. The massive boat collided with a cargo ship. One crew worker is missing after the incident.

A strand of the bird flu in China has mutated so that it can spread to other animals. Scientists said Wednesday that this strand raises potential for a bigger threat to people. In China, the flu has made nine people sick and killed three. Medical experts are unsure as to how they got the virus, but there is no evidence that it is spreading easily among people.

Oscar Pistorius, the South American Olympian who is on trial for the shooting death of his model girlfriend, said he wants to train again. The double-amputee’s agent confirmed on Wednesday that Pistorius went back to his regular track in Johannesburg. His next court appearance is June 4, 2013, where prosecutors aim to serve indictments. However, his murder trial may not actually begin until the end of the year or early 2014. He denies that he intentionally shot his girlfriend and claims he thought it was an intruder.

Insurgents wearing Afghan army uniforms launched a suicide attack at a courthouse Wednesday. The attackers were trying to free Taliban inmates. At least 44 people were killed, half of them shot in the courthouse basement. Nine attackers were killed. This incident is said to be one of the deadliest in the 11-year-old war. It began at 8:30 a.m. when nine men wearing suicide vests drove into the capital of Farah in western Afghanistan. The men evaded security checkpoints by using army vehicles.
