A group of geology students is bringing energy awareness to Kent State by hosting a screening of the documentary “Switch” Wednesday, March 20 at 7:15 p.m.

The documentary is part of the Geological Society of America Switch Energy Awareness & Efficiency Program and will be screened at 250 universities across the country, according to a press release.

Graduate student Darren Reilly, a member of the Kent State chapter of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, saw “Switch” at a screening in Cleveland and felt that it was something that needed to be seen on campus.

Reilly said he hopes students come away with “a general knowledge of energy and our current energy situation in the country and in the world.”

The movie was first screened on campus on Monday, March 18, and Chelsea Windus, a graduate student and member of AAPG, said she enjoyed the viewing.

“What really stands out about the movie is that it’s completely unbiased,” Windus said. “It’s an unbiased view about energy, and it goes through all the different types of energy production and what effects it has on the environment and how many people it can serve.”
