The Kent State University Student Recreation and Wellness Center will host a murder mystery dinner, Speakeasy Soiree, Friday night.

The event will have three acts and a gangster theme. Audience members are encouraged to wear attire from the 1920s, such as fedoras, suspenders, headbands and gloves.

Abby Millsaps, marketing coordinator for the department of recreational services, said five actors and actresses will perform. In addition, three to five audience members will be given portfolios and will become part of the act. Performers will go from table to table and answer audience members’ questions.

Steven Langdon, marketing supervisor, said the event is similar to “Clue,” a children’s mystery board game. Each table is competing to record information they see.

Langdon said most of the budget went toward decorations.

Kent State Banquet Services will provide salad, breadsticks, three different kinds of lasagna, a chocolate fountain and mocktails.

“We have gone all out,” Millsaps said. “You’re going to see a total transformation from what looks like a fitness workout studio to this amazing speakeasy club.”

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The 7:00 p.m. show has sold out and a limited number of tickets remain for the 10:00 p.m. showing. The show is free for students, but a valid ticket and Flashcard are required for admittance.
