Jim Colton, a retired photo editor of Sports Illustrated, will visit Kent State on March 5. He will speak about his photography, career and the impact of sports photography on journalism and culture.

Colton’s speaking event will start at 7 p.m. in the FirstEnergy Auditorium of Franklin Hall. The following day, Colton will give advice to select photojournalism students.

David LaBelle, lecturer for the Department of Journalism and Mass communication, brought up the idea for Colton’s visit, according to Thor Wasbotten, director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

“I felt like it would be really positive for the school and the students,” Wasbotten said. “He has had many awards and service to our industry”

The event is free and open to the public.
