Volunteers needed for Celebration of Brotherhood dinner
March 10, 2013
Student volunteers are needed to help set up, tear down and assist with a community dinner April 20.
The Celebration of Brotherhood dinner will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Islamic Community Center in Cuyahoga Falls.
The purpose of the event, hosted by All Together Now, Inc. and the Islamic Society of Akron and Kent, is to bring together people from all different religions, races, cultures and backgrounds.
“The dinners are designed to foster trust between different cultures and religions in the community, and the event has become an annual occurrence,” Jamie Bloss, Honors College graduate appointee, wrote in an email.
Students in the Honors College can email Bloss at [email protected] to sign up to volunteer. All other interested students should contact Ann Gosky, senior special assistant of quality initiatives and curriculum, at [email protected].
The last day to sign up as a volunteer is Friday, March 15.
“This is a great experience to meet different people from all over the world and develop new friendships, as well as serve the Kent and Akron community,” Bloss wrote.
Laura Mazur, director of All Together Now, Inc., said transportation will be provided to students who sign up to volunteer.
Mazur said this is the fifth year the Celebration of Brotherhood dinner has taken place. She said it’s a way to meet and become educated about the Muslim community in Northeast Ohio in a peaceful setting.
“The dinners are always intended to be a vehicle to bring people together from all races, religions and walks of life,” Mazur said. “We can share a meal [and] celebrate diversity, as well as our common humanity.”
The event is open to the public, and interested attendees can reserve their seats by calling 330-922-9991.
