TWLOHA hosts Lyrics & Conversations to spark talks on depression
February 25, 2013
To Write Love on Her Arms UChapter at Kent State will host Lyrics & Conversations from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday in the Kiva.
Several bands, acoustic artists and poets are scheduled to perform. The event is also an open mic night for students to share their stories about why they care about TWLOHA, their mental health and how they survived past problems.
Pre-sale tickets will be available 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday in the Student Center for $7 and at the door for $10. Students can receive Flashperks for attending. Proceeds will go to the TWLOHA headquarters in Melbourne, Fla., to help with prevention against mental health illness, self-harm, eating disorders and suicide.
Students are also welcome to donate to the event’s Fundly page toward the cause if they are unable to attend the event.
Brandi Garsteck, sophomore business major and member of TWLOHA, said the event is recommended for students who need to learn more about mental health and about the group.
“Everyone has a story,” Garsteck said. “Whether you have a history of mental health or not, TWLOHA is there for anyone. We are more about community and coming together.”
