Sex offenders on social media
February 26, 2013
The battle over a sex offender ban is raging on in Indiana. Indiana lawmakers are debating a controversial state law that raises the question – should sex offenders be banned from social media sites? A federal appeals court ruled the Indiana law unconstitutional, indicating that it is too broad. Now, lawmakers are working hastily to create a more specific ban that would only restrict certain types of offenders. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen legislators trying to push sex offender bans. Nebraska and Louisiana saw similar laws. TV2’s Jessica Schmidt dug to find out if Ohio is next.

The latest version of the Indiana bill focuses on sex offenders who knowingly use social media to chat or talk to children who are under 18. Lawmakers are still looking over it, as it hasn’t been passed.
